A brief of our visit to Karamajiji community

In a popular Abuja community known as a colony for the handicapped and destitute, where life can be seen from the eyes of penury, The Chioma States Afonne Foundation (TCSAF) sought to beam hope in another round of relentless support for the underserved and less privileged in the society.

Despite the pitiable and sub-human nature of life in Karamajiji community, the residents were friendly and warm at the arrival of our team of five local volunteers who were on the ground to extend a hand of support in line with TCSAF’s mission of effectively supporting the less privileged with food, access to basic healthcare services and educational assistance mostly for the girl child.

A largely Muslim community, Karamajiji leaders and elders took our team on a tour of the community for an on-site assessment of the basic needs of the people. Suleiman, one of the elders desires to have schools in the community as there is only one primary school which is owned by a local church. They had other needs like healthcare centers as their women in labour usually move long distances to give birth and receive treatments. Other needs were skills training, pipe-borne water, and electricity, which are near extinct.

As though it was a celebration time, the elders, women, and children, including the disabled numbering over 160 were overjoyed when our team of volunteers distributed food supplies (bags of rice, cartons of indomie noodles, bags of water, and different varieties of cooking ingredients for several families). They were excited to experience love and care and be remembered because they always felt out of place and forgotten.

CSA Foundation’s visit to this warm community was a success.

Watch out for our next tour
